Sources and verification
The source registry
Research for every article is limited to the publishers listed here, chosen by field and subject. Each source an article cites is retrieved and verified before it can be used. Read the methodology for the full process.
Context only. Quality journalism and magazines help explain why a topic matters and how it is discussed. They are never the sole evidence for a factual claim: facts must be supported by research, official or reference sources.
Primary and independent sources. Documents a government, parliament, political party or religious institution publishes about itself show what that body says or decided. They are cited as such, never as the neutral account of a disputed event, and always alongside independent scholarship or reference works.
The registry is maintained by our editors, who add, review and disable publishers over time. Being listed does not make every page of a publisher reliable: each document is assessed on its own before it can support an article. Paywalled publishers are used for citation details and further reading only, never as evidence we have not read.
